GRAND NATIONAL MEETING, FINAL PAYMENTS AND ACCEPTANCES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The final payunents and Acceptances for the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Grand National meeting are:—

NORTH TARANAKI HUNT RACES. The North Taranaki Hunt Club has been advised by the Railway Department that on the day of the club’s race-meeting (September 2) the evening train for Hawera will be delayed to leave New Plymouth at 6.5 p.m. Horses for stations between New Plymouth and Hawera will be conveyed on this train. OPUNAKE RACING CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. Mr. A. Good., president, presided over the annual meeting of the above club at Opunake. The balance sheet showed receipts to have heen £6,524 (totalisator £1970. gates £708) and the expenditure £6930 (taxes £1791’ stakes £1500), leaving a debit balance of £406 It was pointed out that although this deficiency of £406 was shown, if the depreciation allowance of €l6O was deducted and the abnormal income tax assessment of £156 3s lid, the balance to debit was insignfieant when compared to the losses of other clubs for the season just concluding, Egmont £2734 6s fid. and Taranaki J.C £l6OO whilst smaller clubs were just about insolvent. The club's assets were shown as follows: Land £2BOO, buildings £3350 plant £2BO, Government loan £5OO. sundry debtors £BO. Liabilities: Mortgages £1660, sundry creditors £l7, capital account £6997. Mr. E. S. Forsyth, chairman of the committee. reported that the most noticable decline in Opunake’s case was in the totalisator receipts. For comparison purposes he gave a few figures for the racing seasons IJ2O-21 and 1921-22. the 1920-1921 amounts being parentheses: Totalisator £19,709 (£33.802), lawn gates £424 5s (£«B3 ss), main gates £284 12s 6d (£331 15s), privileges £149 9s (£196), nominations and acceptances £232 (£253). "Following on the decision arrived at last year, your committee did not issue any complimentary tickets, and, in fact, this doubtful method of increasing the revenue may be considered definitely laid to rest, as far as this club is concerned. A considerable amount of maintenance and repair work has been undertaken during the season, including the widening and levelling of the training track, so as to provide better training facilities, and substantial additions to the lavatdfcy/and water services. As members are aware, the Racing Commissioners’ recommendations, which included an extra day for our club, were rejected by Parliament. It Is just as well, perhaps, for clubs interested, that the extra days were not allotted this season, on account of the small attendances and speculation, but. with the return to normal times and conditions, every effort should be made by clubs concerned, to get the report adopted.” The report and balance sheet were adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: President. Mr. A. Good; vice-president, Mr. J. M. Hickey, senr.; committee, Messrs. J. P. Burton. E. S. Forsyth, F. Julian, D. Campbell. A. H. Stevenson, S. J. Richards, A. F. Neilson, D. Harrop, J. Young. Stewards. J. P. Burton. E. S. Forsyth, F. Julian. D. Campbell, A. H. Stevenson, S. J. Richards. A. F. Neilson, D. Harrop, J. Young. Hon. treasurer. G. Barr-Brown ; bon. surgeon. Dr. T. N. Wait; lion. vet. surgeon, R. B. Wood, M.R.C.V.S..L. ; handicapper, H. Coyle; clerk of scales, H. Holmes; hon. clerk of course, G. Newsham; starter, A. Morse; judge. C. H. Washer; hon. timekeepers, ,T. Bennett and R. Baker: secretary, P. S. Riley. Mr. E. S. Forsyth was subsequently re-elected chairman. The president said that tenders were to be called for the erection of a new stewards’ stand as per plan selected. Mr. .1. Young said he quite realised the necessity for tlie stand, but he questioned the wisdom of spending much money on improvements until they saw how things were going. The Government would have to ease upon the taxation, or country clubs would have to close down. Mr. I. Simpson thought the worst times had passed, and they could reasonably look forward to better times. The president said there was money in hand to build the new stand. Mr. Forsyth said they were pledged to go on with the
