Wanganui will be represented by the following team in the match against Taranaki on. Saturday:— Full-back.—R. Collier (Taihape). Three-quarters.—L. Head (Imlay), Potaka (Rangitikei), Weir (Imlay). Five-eighths.—Peina (Rangitikei), B. Delves (Imlay) captain. Half.—Baddeley (Old Boys). Rover.—S. Smith (Imlay). Forwards—Sinclair (Taihape), O’Connell (Taihape), W. Ross (Kaierau), Abbott (Imlay), H. Cox (Old Boys), A. Harre (Rangitikei), Murphy (Taihape). Reserves.—-Back, Tau Paranihi (Rangitikei) ; forwards, Packer (Old Boys), CoUerton (Marists). TARANAKI v. MANAWATU. THE MANAWATU TEAM. Manawatu will be represented by the following in the match against Taranaki at Stratford on August 10: Full-back.—Swalnson. Three-quarters.—Bailey, Cullins, Glendinning. Fire-eighths.—Hair, Bramwell. Half.—Rose. Rover.—Leeder. Forwards.—Anderson, Carroll, Harkness, Dustin (captain), Galpin, O’Reilly, Ryan. Reserves.—Morris (back), and McKenzie (forward). The team will arrive by the mail train on Wednesday evening and will leave for Wanganui by the mail train on Friday morning. THIS WEEK’S FIXTURES. CENTRAL DIVISION. The competition fixtures in the central division are now nearing completion. On Thursday the Stratford High School will play off with the Stratford fourths, Mr. T. Wilson refereeing. A match has been arranged between the Stratford banks and law and the mercantile firms. Mr. A. Klee will referee. Whangamomona will meet Strathmore at Strathmore on Saturday for the Dean Cup.
Says the Wanganui Chronicle: “A couple of seasons ago three of Auckland’s best players, Kingston, Ross and Campbell, were induced -to take up their residence in Taranaki and play football, and they have stayed there ever since. Early in the present season Ifwerson, another Aucklander of repute, was also overcome by the attractions of the butter province, although in his case he was induced to return north after playing a few club games.
