WAR OF THE FUTURE.
HORRORS OF AIR ATTACKS. LITTLE MEANS OF DEFENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright, Received August 1, 5.5 p.m. London, July 31. Fokker, the Dutch designer of the German airplane, has arrived from America, where he has been organising a great commercial aviation system. In an interview, he declared that air attacks in future wars would be on a stupendous scale of destructiveness. He did not think it possible for any defence to keep every air fleet away, but the best defence would be a very strong air fleet and one capable of destroying enemy bombers and bases. He believed that ultimately such an air force would replace artillery. He pointed out that poison gas carrying aeroplanes, which it was likely would be used to attack large cities, could develop awful powers.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
