HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER.

NEEDED BY THE FARMERS. WANTS OF COASTAL RESIDENTS. The desirability of obtaining hydro-elec-trical power for the Omata district was mentioned by the chairman of the Royal Oak Dairy Co. (Mr. E. R. Bayty) at the annual meeting last night. That afternoon the speaker, with the secretary (Mr. A. J. Tunbridge), had met the New Plymouth borough electrical engineer (Mr. R. JJ. Bartley), who had advised them to put in an application straight away. The Borough Council hoped to have additional power in January next, but so far could give no quotation.. Any line out to the district would have to be on a paying basis, and the more consumers there were, the less (he understood) there would be to pay. “I am fully convinced that electrical power in the factory would relieve the coal bill greatly, at least £lOO to £l5O a year, and possibly more,” said Mr. Bayly. Spotswood residents, he understood, were petitioning for power supply, whilst he thought residents further down the coast were contemplating similar action. There was no doubt that all farmers in the district who lived near the main road would be anxious to obtain power for their milk-ing-machines as well as for their houses.
