HUNTING.

NORTH TARANAKI HUNT. SATURDAY'S MBUt, A? briefly r.-ported yesterday, tha North Taranaki Hunt Club on Saturday met at Mr. H V.arson's farm, Waihi, where a very enjoyable day’s hunting was spent despite there being no kills. Before throwing-off, both hunt-men and spectators adjourned to a local private steeplechase track, where some very pleas.ng gallops were put up. The first halfhour was devoted to the learners, several of the horses being maidens as regards the jumping game. The first heat, between Mr. Marsh’s horses Cammy and Waihi, was a very creditable perf .rmanee, despite Ctuumy s failure to negotiate the last brush jump. The next pair to follow wera Mr Edwin s Encircle and Mr. O’Neills Pure Laziness, Pure Laziness proving a little the better of the pair’ after a fast round. Next on the programme came Simon, accompanied by the local hunter Marshal Neil, who finished about a length ahead of his rival after a rattling good gallop, both horses jumping faultlessly. Then Projector and Wait a While, both horses safely negotiating all the jumps and finishing well together. The final gallop was between Mr. E. Rook’s Lord Grafton (name unknown) and the old veteran steeplechaser Whakamoa. This was the best gallop of the day, both for pace and jumping and both cf these horses must have a lot to pay in deciding the Hunt Club point-to-point steeplechases next Thursday week. The hounds were then thrown off in Mr. Watson’s place, and a few minutes afterwards picked up a hare, which led them a merry chase for a couple of miles, crossing the 1 main road into Mr. Edwin's, and then into Mr. J. Cole’s, back through Mr. Edwin's into Mr. Watson's, and finally escaping along the beach. About 20 fences were jumped in this run, some being seven-barbed-wire fences; so the numerous spectators, from their vantage- , point on Mr. Edwin’s Mil, had a fine view of a really good run. the jumping being absolutely perfect. Another unsuccessful run end- ' ed the day, after which everyone adjourned i to the homestead, where they were hospitably entertained by the host and hostess.' Mr. J. B. Martin, returned thanks for the hunt, as did Mr. J. Edwin for the host and hostess. Among other members, the following were noticed well up with the huntsman (Mr. L. Pepperell) • Mr. J. Edwin (Encircle), Mr. F. Paril (Whakamoa), Mr. A. Adlam (Red Hazard), Mr. Copestake (Projector). Mr. Glentworth (Walt a While). Mr. F. Marsh (Cammy), Mr. G. Marsh (Waihi), Mr. J. Pratt • Billie).
