MODERN EMIGRANT SHIP.

1700 PASSENGERS CARRIED. A CHILDREN’S NURSERY. London. June 9. The Andania, the new 15,000-ton oilburning Cunarder which left Southampton on her maiden volage recently, is the first of a new fleet which this company is putting on the service to Canadai All the Cunard ships on the Can:adian route were sunk by Germans in the war. ; There is no second class on this mcxlern emigrant ship. The Andania carries 500 cabin and 1200 third-class passeh--1 gers. In these times shipping companies in planning emigrant ships, chiefly pride themselves on giving better third-class accommodation. The fourberth “third” cabins and the big saloons for eating and social life on the Andania are a big advance on what one remembers of the old emigrant ships. The rooms are panelled and decorated on a definite scheme, a luxury usually reserved for the more expensive quarters. iThe third-class fare is £l7 ss, and the 1 cabin £2O ISs, the latter being slightly iless than the second class on the famj'ous big liners. J The pet feature of the ship is a children’s nursery with bottle-glass windows, “Alice-in-Wonderland” frieze, and an amusing domestic look. It was explained to-day that there is not such a nursery on the biggest liner in the world.
