The many friends of Mr. Gus Sole will regret to learn that he is seriously ill in the New Plymouth Hospital. Mr. J. S. Barton, Stipendiary Magistrate, who has been stationed at Gisborne for the past four years, has been t 'ansferred to Wanganui.—Press Assn.
Messrs. W. H. Gifford, of Tauranga, and J. A. Mitehell, of Wellington, have b’T-n appointed to the Hansard staff. the death took place at Hawera on Weaiiesday, at the age of 65 years, of -Vis. James Williamson, relict of the late Mr. James Williamson, of Spring Grove, Kakaramea. Mr. Arthur 11. Vile has resigned his position as organiser tor the Liberal and Labor Party in order to contest the Manawatu seat as an Independent Liberal. A Capetowfl cable reports the death of Lieutenant-Colonel Lionel Robertson, who was formerly in command of the Royal Australian Naval Gunnery School. He saw much service in the war and took part in the Ostend-Zeebrugge attacks, 1918. Rumors have been in circulation, says a Wellington telegram, that Mr. R. P. Hudson, member for Motueka. does not intend to contest that seat at the general election. Mr. Hudson states that there is no truth whatever in the rumors and that he fully intends to contest the Motueka seat as a straight-out Reform candidate.
