NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS, RESULTS OF THE FINALS. ■By Telegraph.—Press Association Timaru, Last Night. The South Island boxing championships were concluded to-night before a crowded attendance, when the finals were decided. The boxing was of a very high order, and five of the six bouts were decided on points, mostly by narrow margins. Mr. A. S. Elworthy (president of the Timaru Association) donated a cup for the most ■scientific boxer, which was awarded to T. Griffiths (Dunedin). The Clouderly medal for the most plucky boxer was awarded to W. McPhail (Ashburton). Results:— Flyweight.—T. Griffiths (Dunedin) 7.7 beat A. Ennis (Timaru) 7.9. Bantam.—A. Worthington (Timaru) 8.0 beat !G. Terris (Ashburton) 8.1%. Feather.—A. Pascoe (Greyimouth) had to withdraw from the final owing to an injury, and W. Drew (Oamaru) won by default. Light.—L. McDonald (Dunedin) 10.0 beat .T. Peterson (Oamaru) 9.6. Welter.—J. Stewart (Timaru) 10.6 beat T. Harris (Dunedin) 10.4. Middle.—L. O’Neill (Greymouth) 10.13 beat W. McPhail (Ashburton) 11.2% —a knock-out in the third round. Heavy.—A. McCormick (Ashburton) 12.6 beat H. Stevens (Christchurch) 11.13. TOURNAMENT AT ELTHAM. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Eltham Boxing Association has decided to stage an amateur tourney at Eltham on August 5. Wanganufr has challenged a Taranaki team on that date, and the following bouts have been arranged, the Wanganu! contestants being mentioned first in each weight: Fly, Cowan v. Childs; feather, L. Fromont v. E. Dudding, G. Fromont v. T. Bell; heavy, E. Young v. A. E. Mills, J. Moore and L. McGuire; welter, P. Corliss v. ■T. Miller; light heavy, T. Syme v. R. Fitzsimmons ; middle, J. Lockett v. C. Coulton; welter, G. Smith v. A. Duggan. Other bouts ■have yet to be arranged, and this excellent programme will no doubt draw the biggest crowd ever seated in the Town Hall.
