FITZROY AFFAIRS.
MEETING OF RATEPAYERS. CONGESTION AT THE SCHOOL. A meeting of the Fitzroy Ratepayers’ Association was held last night, when Mr. R. Parkin presided over a fair attendance of ratepayers. A report was read from Meaara. Roy. Nicholson and Bennett in connection with the gear of the former Fitzroy fire brigade, and the association decided to proceed no further in the matter. A very spirited discussion took place re the congested state of some of the class-rooms at the local school. A special committee was appointed to confer with representatives of the school committee regarding making arrangements to call a special meeting of parents and supporters of the school to make strong representations to the department to have the congestion relieved. Complaint was made that the Fitzroy post office is closed for business each day during the lunch hour. The chief postmaster is to be asked to make arrangements to have the office open dufr ing this time. Material is to be procured for a bathing shed for men and a working bee is to be arranged to have this erected. The authorities are to be asked to erect a slot telephone somewhere in the vicinity of the stores. Attention was directed to the fact that the corner opposite the stores is a very dangerous one. It was decided to a-sk the Borough Council to make arrangements to have the trees that obstruct the view cut away as soon as possible.
