PUNIHO & WAREA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Warea Batchelors’ Ball was held on Thursday, 20th inst., and proved the biggest and best function held on the coast this year, visitors being present from New Plymouth to Rahotu. The hall was packed, about sixty to seventy couples being on the floor. The hoys had spent a lot of time in putting the fiooi* in good trim, and their labor was not in vain, for the floor was just Al for dancing. The hall and supper room were decorated with nikau ferns, which produced a very pleasing effect. The music was in the hands of Mrs. George’s orchestra, and, needless to say, one could not remain still while the music was being played, extras were played by Miss Taylor (Auckland), Miss C. Julian, Miss iT. Sole, and Mrs. Doyle. Mr. "Pat” Jenkins ’ with Miss C. Julian and Mr. Gordon Wills with I Miss Isabel Sole, were the leaders of the Grand March. There were four M.C.’s, viz., Messrs. P. Jenkins, G. Wells, H. Wells, and W. Lawrence. A sit-down supper was provided, Mesdaunes Corbett and Fowls being in charge. The tables were very daintily arranged. Dancing was kept up to three in the morning, the orchestra playing till two o’clock. For the flnisfi the music was provided by Misses Taylor, Sole, Julian, and Doyle. The usual fortnightly dance in connection with the Warea Hall was held on the 13th., and was fairly well attended. Messrs. Parker and Norris provided first-class music. Mr. G. Wells was M.C. Extras were played by Miss C. Julian. The annual meeting of the Brooklands Cooperative Dairy Company was held last week, at which there was a full attendance of shareholders. A very satisfactory balance sheet was presented, the output being considerably in excess of last year. The following were elected’ directors for the coming year : Messrs. Sidney Wells (chairman, re-elec-ted), Payne, Parrott, J. McEldowney and Goodwin. With the exception of Mr. Goodwin the directors are the same as last year. A football match between the Warea and Okato school hoys was held at Okato on the 18th inst., the Warea boys proving a little to strong for their opponents, winning the match by 20 to 3. Another very Interesting game was played at Warea on the 22nd inst., when the football team from Pihama school journeyed to Warea for a game. The Warea boys again gained the victory over the team, which had never previously been beaten. The game was a very hard fought one, and some very good football was witnessed. The Warea boys showed good combination, gaining the verdict by three points, the score being 6 to 3. Wdiilsb on the subject one should mention the splendid assistance Mr. Richards (Warea) has given in coaching the boys, and it is partly due to his untiring efforts that the team has been brought, to its present state of efficiency. The boys are now pretty well able to hold their own. The final match for the Kasper Cup was played at Okato on the 22nd inst., between , the Parihaka and Puniho football teams. The local boys won by three points, the score being six to three. This should not have been the final match, but the Rahotu team, which should have played,, forfeited the game, and therefore the local ' boys win the cup. We congratulate them upon their success. A movement is afoot amongst the local school children to start a. calf-rearing competition. Keen interest is being taken in the movement by the kiddies, and before the season is out we should see some fine specimens of heifer calves around. Tlie many friends of Mr. Sid Crowhurst will he pleased to learn that he is progressing very favorably after his recent accident, and will he back again with us in a fortnight or three weeks. The members of the Warea and Puniho G.F.S. are busy preparing for a concert to be held somewhere in September. The proceeds will be devoted to the pony and gig fund. Keen interest is being taken in the fancy dress bail for children, which will be held in Hempton Hall this week. Good music has been obtained for dancing, and everything Is being done to ensure success. Mrs. Larking is ba.ck again with us after a three months’ holiday. Mr. A. Phipps (New Plymouth) is# spending a few days in Puniho.
