I In the annual report, the committee of the I Waverley-Waitotara Racing Club states that ’ notwithstanding the strenuous times the club ; stands in a satisfactory position. The statei ment of receipts and expenditure of the meeting shows a very creditable balance notwithsatnding the adverse conditions. The stakes paid away during the season amounted to £I3SU, and £lOBl 17s 2d was paid to the Government in taxes. The totalisator receipts were £2303 7s Bd, and the sum of £784 2s was taken at the gates. Mr. J. Dalton has given notice to move: “That the last part of Rule 23 of the Rules of the Club be altered to read: “And there shall be a committee, not exceeding 16 in number, in addition to the president, two vicepresidents, and treasurer, who shall be ex officio members of the committee during their term of office.” Good progress is being made with the ereci tion of the new electric totalisator at Ellerslie, and sanguine hopes are expressed that the • instrument will be ready for a trial run in ■ September. In England the National Hunt Committee ' has decided that jockeys licenses to ride frc*n the stewards shall be covered by a polity .■ for £l6OO against death resulting iroin acci- ' dent while riding in a race. There is to he ; a limit to the time in which deatn follows ' the accident. To assist in providing funds, half the jockey’s fee for license, aid 2s 6d for every mount, is to be paid to the Jockeys’ Insurance Fund. This fund only covers jockeys riding over jumps, and the policies are bein«; taken out with a leading insurance company. Under National Hunt Club rules the fee for a jockey’s license is £1 10s annually.
