Humphrey, Broadway, Stratford Orders for papers may also be lefl with him. A. AND P. ASSOCIATION MEETING OF COMMITTEE, July 22. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Stratford A. and P. Association was held on Saturday, Mr. G. Sangsrer presiding. The executive reported for the month that in view of the heavy cost involved by renovating the cottage and the necessity of harboring the resources as far as possible, it had been decided to offer the cottage for sale and removal. When this was completed it was the intention to hold a working bee to clean up the ground and make the main entrance and approach more presentable. Acting on a recommendation from the annual meeting, a sub-committee had been set up to go into the matter of agricultural classes. It had. been decided, after consultation with the school committee, that to hold the classes in August or September of this year would not meet with the desired results. The better plan would be to defer the matter until May of next year, when farmers would have less difficulty in attending, and a longer time would be allowed to complete the necessary organisation and enhance the prospect for making an initial success.

The necessity for increasing the membership was one of the most important points to consider, and to get new members at the present time would be recognised as a difficult one compared with the last two or three years. In moving the adoption of the report the president said he thought the forthcoming show would be a difficult one to

work and the committee should do their best to secure volunteers, especially ladies to help with the show arrangements.

The Department of Agriculture wrote in answer to the association’s representations regarding the spread of noxious weeds on the Croydon Road settlement, stating that the department was fully alive to the danger, and had done everything possible to induce the Lands Department to have the weeds dealt with. It was no doubt on account of the lack of funds that their efforts had not been successful. Strong representations were being made to the Lands Department in the hope of having the weeds dealt with before they again flower.

Mr. Linnell said he quite understood that the Government suffered from lack Of funds, but if a private individual in circumstances just as straitened allowed weeds to spread on his land he would be prosecuted. Mr. Linnell suggested that a committee might be set up for the purpose of instituting a calf club in connection with the" Boys’ and Girls’ Club movement and to draw up rules, etc. Several prizes might be offered for competition. It was decided to institute such a club immediately, the secretary being instructed to procure the rules of other similar clubs, and the matter will be gone into at a later meeting. Messrs. W. McDonald, E. Hancock, E. S. Williams, W. H. Humphrey and W. Furrie were elected as new members of the society. The revision of the show schedule was left to the executive. SHOW DATES. Some time ago delegates from the Eginont and Stratford A. and P. Associations waited on the Wanganui Association. at Wanganui, with the object of getting the Wanganui Association to hold their show a week earlier than has been the custom to secure a rotation of the Palmerston, Wanganui, Hawera and Stratford shows at weekly intervals. Information was received from Wanganui on Friday to the effect that the Wanganui show had been fixed for November 8 and 9. The chairman said the delegates had been successful, and the Stratford dates could now be fixed. A resolution was carried fixing the dates at November 23 and 24. The Hawera date will be November 16 and 17. GENERAL. The residents of Toko Road and Huinga settlements met last night to give a house-warming at Mr. R. Binnie’s new residence. \ Mr. Binnie’s popularity in the district was shown by the. fathering, which numbered about 60 persons. A most enjoyable evening was spent with cards, boxing, dancing, games and singing. The music was supplied by Misses Jamieson, Smith, T. and Mrs. Jensen.
