ROSY CREEK PEDIGREE JERSEYS.
MESSRS. A. AND J. O’DONNELL’S FIFTH ANNUAL SALE. Few. if any. pedigree Jersey herds are more noted in the Dominion than that of Messrs.. A. and J. O’Donnell, Rosy Creek, Inaha. A glance at this year’s Register of Merit, which lias just been published, will show that although this firm’s stock have a splendid list of records in the past, the result of their work as breeders has never been on a higher plane. In the two-year-old class alone, out of 170 heifers from all parts of the Dominion. now under semi-official test, four entered by these breeders are in the first dozen. At this year's annual sale, which is to be hekJ in the A. and P. show grounds, Hawera, on Tuesday, August 1, some nineteen two-year-olds will be sold. All of these have been pasturing with Viola’s Golden Noble, a young sire bred by Mt. E. Griffiths, and purchased at a high figure last season. This bull is sired by that now famous Viola’s Golden Laddie, imported, while his dam, Noble Queen Bess, by Pettine’s Noble, imported, is granddaughter of Afercedes Noble Queen, imported, who has to' her credit a semi-official record of 6291b5. butter-fat in nine months. Quite apart from the outstanding individuality of this young sire, breeders will note that he traces four times to that renowned Island bull. Noble of Oaklands, son of the famous Lady Viola. Each year the stock bred by the vendors have shown a marked improvement, and the line to be offered at this year’s sale are undoubtedly the best yet submitted. They are a well-grown, hardy lot, springing up nicely, and will enter the ring in excellent condition. It may be mentioned that they are' all entered for the Certificate of Record Stakes of £5OO, promoted by the Eemont A. and P. Association. Six of these heifers were sired by that now well-known bull. Rainbow's King, sire of that great heifer Goneril, sold at the third annual sale, who. as a junior two-year-old. produced 11,6801b5. milk and 652.431b5. butter-fat in 347 days. Belvedere Sun Prince,, another sire in use. is represented by five daughters. This bull is by K.C.B. from Sunflower V.. and he is the sire of Cabaletta, 566 lbs. fat at 3 years old. and Queen of Rosy Creek, whose record is 5001bs. butter-fat. Three are by Perfection's King, whose dam. Perfection, is half-sister to the world’s champion. Sultan's Daisy. A daughter of Caius, the half-brother to Sultan’s Daisy, Rainbow, and Bright Aster, is also to be sold. Two daughters of Connemara’s Rainbow, who has now 10 C.0.R1 daughters, are also Included in the catalogue. There is no doubt the sale will again create a great deal of interest among breeders and dairymen, as the stock bred by the Messrs. O’Donnell’s have made a widespread reputation, and the remarkably good results shown under test by the stock sold at previous sales, and the satisfaction expressed by their purchasers, should be a sufficient recc«nimend.'ith?n to all wishing to improve their herds by the addition of Jersey blood of the most approved strains. The sale has been entrusted to Messrs. R. P. Morrisey and Co., from whom catalogues and all Information tnay be obtained.—Published by arrangement.
