VISITORS TO GERMANY.

DIFFICULTY FOR AUSTRALASIANS. IS IT REPRISAL FOR EMBARGO? By Telegraph.—Press Asin.—Copyright. Received July 19, 5.5 p.m. London, July 18. The feeling is growing among Australasians in London that they are not welcome in Germany. The Australian Press Association has received complaints from Australasians desiring to visit Germany that they are faced with idifficulties when applying for passport visas. Some state they were even refused visas on the ground that Germans are not admitted to Australia, and other reasons suggested by tourists include the Commonwealth embargo against Germany and reprisal for the expulsion of expert Gerpian workmen from Australia. Australia House officials, although they consider the difficulty of obtaining visaj? more apparent than real, assert that whatever difficulties exist they will probably vanish when the terms of the raising of the embargo on August 1 become known in London. Daily there are inquiries whether the embargo will be lifted unconditionally, and a pronouncement on these terms from Australia would he welcomed. Officials point out that travellers wishing to visit Germany for trade purposes can obtain visas in London without trouble, but those otherwise inclined can easily secure the necessary authority from the Consulate in Brussels or other Continental places. Cook’s Tourist Agency, which is extensively engaged in procuring passports, informs the Australian Press Association that it is unaware of any differentiation against Australasians, who are treated exactly on the same footing as other Britishers. The only distinction was against Americans, who had to pay fifty shillings for visas compared with fifteen shillings charged British people. This is due to exchange. Cook’s pointed out that it was impossible to obtain visas for Cologne unless the applicant proved he had accommodation in advance, because Cologne was overcrowded. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
