JAPAN’S CROWN PRINCE.
HIS FORTHCOMING MARRIAGE. WEDDING OF SIMPLICITY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received July 19, 12.30 a.m. Tokio, July 17. A Royal edict announcing the forthcoming wedding of Prince Hirohito, the Crown Prince, and the Princess Nagako Kuni declares extreme simplicity will characterize the ceremony. The total expenditure of the Royal household on the occasion will be five million yen (about £500,000), whereof two to three millions will be expended in preparations, including gifts, and the remainder for ceremonies, special buildings, carriages and banquets. The wedding takes place in the autumn. The edict declares that considering the importance of the occasion greater expenditure might reasonably be expected, but Prince Hirohito desires to limit the outlay as low as possible and so set the nation an example of thrift and economy. The Princess’ ceremonial dress is being made et Kyoto and it will cost twenty thousand yen. It is expected every municipality in the Empire will spend lavishly on the celebrations. —Aus.-N.Z.
