DESPATCH OF TELEGRAMS.
NEW SYSTEM OPERATING. MORE RAPID WORK. By Telegraph.—-press Association. Wellington, Last Night. One thousand telegrams were exchanged between Auckland and Wellington yesterday by means of the Murray system of machine-printing telegrams. This was the first test of the new method between Wellington and Auckland, but the Wellington to Christchurch line has been in operation since December, with the utmost satisfaction. There was no confusion and the experiment was completely satisfactory. The machine enables eight messages to be transmitted on a single line at the same time. On the Auckland-Wellington line each operator can send 40 words a minute, so that with both ends at full pressure 320 words a minute are transmitted. The Wel-lington-Christchurch line is at present limited to 30 words a minute. It is intended to link up all the chief centres in this way as soon as possible.
