CONCILIATION COUNCIL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 17. The Conciliation Commissioner, Mr. Newton, heard to-day proceedings in the industrial dispute between the wholesale merchants in Wellington and the Employees’ Union. The main point of discussion was the holding of a Dominion Conference before the Conciliation Council. Both parties were agreed in the opinion that such a conference was desirable, and it will be held in Wellington on July 27. Each side will be represented by about nine delegates. CHARGE OF GAMBLING. Auckland, July 17. On Sunday night the police raided a house in Hobson Street and arrested 22 Chinese. Tommy Wang Doo was charged with keeping a common gaming house, two others with assisting, and 19 with being on the premises. They were brought before the court and remanded till Friday. FREEZING WORKERS RESUME. Christchurch. July 17. A large number of unionists returned to work this morning at the various Canterbury freezing works. The men represented all departments and included a few slaughtermen.
