THE HIDES MARKET. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Sheepskins were weaker at to-day’s sales. Ox hides and calfskins were lower. Cow i hides were firmer. CANTERBURY PRODUCE MARKET. Christchurch, Last Night. Most of the interest in the grain and produce market centres around the potato position, the outlook being given additional interest by the official interim figures just published. The market -is firm, and business has been reported at £4 10s. and in one case at £4 15s, at country stations. Farmers are not offering freely, apparently believing that the market is likely to further strengthen. Quotations to farmers are from £4 10s to £4 15s. Inquiries from Auckland, for both prompt and forward business, are brisker, £-5 at country stations being paid for August delivery. There is nothing new to report regarding the wheat position. Under-grade is a drug, and the increase in wheat returns is likely to accentuate the evil, though the proportion of rejected is very small compared to what it was early in the season. It is understood the Government is continuing to take any suitable line of Tuscan for export, which will probably take them into the second million of bushels. Both perennial and Italian ryegrass are very firm, the export of a good-sized parcel cf Italian to America causing a flutter. Cocksfoot is firm, though little is doing. Cowgrass is again quiet after the recent spurt. Both oats and chaff are lifeless, practically nothing doing. LONDON MARKETS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.
