REPATRIATION COMMITTEE.

PAST MONTH’S UORK. The monthly meeting of the NewPlymouth District Repatriation Committee was held yesterday. Present: Messrs. C. H. Weston (chairman), W. J. Chaney, T. Furlong and D. le C. Morgan (secretary). The general work of the office did not reflect any shrinkage, corresponding in assistance afforded to ex-soldiers with the preceding month. The secretary reported that three transactions had been completed and loans amounting to £725 repaid. The executive’s action in granting loans amounting to £2OO for furniture and business was confirmed. Applications for loans received at the meeting from ex-soldiers totalled £330, all the applications being granted. Several men, both personally and by letter, approached the committee relative to indulgences on account of hardship and loss incidental to the present economic depression. It has been the policy of the committee to view these applications sympathetically and in all cases time was extended to those unable to meet their obligations. Nine other cases of varying natures were considered and satisfactorily dealt with.
