AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Received July 14, 8.30 p.m. Washington, July 13. In the third section 24 players qualified to compete in the open golf championship at Chicago, MacDOnald leading with 143. Willie Hunter tied with three others for second place with 145. There are 13 amateurs among the qualifying players, who to-morrow start the championship proper over 72 holes.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. As some of the ladies are unable to play in to-day’s match, it has been necessary to re-arrange their team slightly. The match will now be played as follows, the top four commencing at 1 p.m., and the others following at five-minute Intervals : Miss Rundle and Miss Gavin play Mackay and Chong. Mrs. Johns and Mrs. Nicholson play Johns and Butcher. Miss Stanford and Miss Thomson play Robertshaw and Bewley. Mrs. Wade and Mrs. Burke play Smith and Weston. Mrs. Williams and Miss Simpson play Elliott and Hasell. Miss Bremer and Miss Goldwater play Grey and Johnson. Mrs. R. Gray and Mrs. Wajers play Austin and Simpson. f Mrs. Mac Diarmid and Miss Home play Smythe and Steeds. Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Perry play Broome and M’Quade. Miss Winfield and Mrs. W. C. Weston play Thomson and Burgess. The match is a best-ball game, the ladies playing from their own tees and receiving 11 strokes handicap, that is, a stroke at all the holes except the six short ones and at the 11th. A bogie match will be played by the. men not in the team. Players in this match must leave the first tee vacant for the teams' match from 1 to 2 p.m.
