ROUND-THE-WORLD FLIGHT.
NEW ATTEMPT PLANNED. IN CASE BLAKE FAILS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, July 12. The Australian Press Association learns that a prominent English group of airmen is advancing arrangements for a new world flight in the event of Major Blake’s failure. The party will consist of two pilots, a first-class navigator, and a special engineer. The present intention is. to use a very large twin-engined flying boat. The course will probably be down the coast of France, Spain, Madeira. Cape Verde Islands and Pernambuco, following from Spain the route recently flown by the Portuguese navigators across the Atlantic, thence down the east coast of South America to a point south of the River Plate, crossing the Argentine and Chili, oyer the Lower Andes; then northwards to Valparaiso, from which a course will be taken almost due east, touching at Juan Fernandez and Easter Island.
From Easter Island they will proceed to Ducie Island and Pitcairn, then through the Pacific Group to a point in North Australia, from which the homeward route will be taken along the track Sir Ross Smith took in his flight to Australia. MAJOR BLAKE’S FLIGHT. LANDING IN THE DESERT. Received July 13, 5.5 p.m. Cairo, July 12. , Major Blake developed engine trouble between Tiza and Bagdad, and both machines landed in mid-desert, where repairs are being carried out. The second machine referred to is an , armed plane accompanying Major Blake I to Bagdad in case he had to land in regions inhabited by hostile tribes.
