SYDNEY CATTLE
A TRICK THAT FAILED. AGENTS FRUSTRATE CORNER. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Sydney, July 11. An attempt made to corner the cattle market and force up the price -of beef in connection with the sales at Flemington was frustrated. It has been the custom of the Railway Department, in consideration of the .capacity of the yards and the requirements of the auctioneers, to allot 300 trucks for the consignment of stock from country districts each sale day. It was discovered that one man had ordered 150 trucks for various northern stations for each day of the sales. Agents became suspicious, and discovered it was not intended to use the trucks, as the dealers for whom he had ordered them were merely dummies. The agents thereupon approached the department and asked that an extra 100 trucks be sent out, meantime hurriedly advising their clients to Send more cattle. This was done, and as a result the supplies for the sales were normal.
