THE STOLEN YACHT.
A REMARKABLE VOYAGE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Brisbane, July 11. The yacht Ra-ata has been brought from Ye/pon to Rockhampton. From what can be gathered the vessel covered over 4300 miles in the trip, mainly under sail. The log found aboard states that when off the New Zealand coast the crew got provisions from a passing vessel. The yacht’s course, starting from the New Zealand coast, was to the Kermadecs. then east to Rapa Island, then south to New Caledonia, thence in a northerly direction and so on till the Queensland coast was reached. The crew part of the time lived on sharks which they harpooned. They also condensed salt' water when their fresh water exhausted. One of those arrested is reputed to be a skilful seaman with a record of service as second mate on big liners. During the Ra-ata’s voyage he put in 13 hours at the wheel on end, the greater part at night. The only aids to navigation we«t a bowl compass and an ordinary schdei atlas.
