IMPERIAL CHALLENGE SHIELD
LORD JELLICOE’S TROPHY. AWARDED TO NEW PYMOUTH HIGH SCHOOL. Their Excellencies the GovernorsGeneral of Canada, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand have presented challenge trophies to the unit in each Dominion which makes the greatest allround effort, shows the highest allround training, and enters the largest number of successful teams in. the Imperial Challenge Shield competitions. In 1921, New Zealand entered 104 teems for the senior and 26 teams for the junior competition. Of these the following were highly commended: 1. New Plymouth' Boys’ High School Cadets.
2. No. 19 Company Senior Cadets (Gisborne High .School). Next in order of merit was Waitaki Boys’ High School. Altogether 25 New Zealand schools competed, in addition to numerous cadet companies. The Minister of Defence has written the headmaster of the New Plymouth High School advising that as a result of their very fine performance in the Imperial Challenge Shield competition, of 1921, Lord Jellicoe’s trophy has been awarded to the cadet corps of the school. .. The Minister adds: “I shall be glad it you will tell the officers, N.C.O.’s and cadets of your corps that I am very pleased with ■the good results, and that I congratulate them on being the first winners of the Governor-Generals trophy.” \ The trophy is on its way irom England, and will be presented to the school in due course. The following schools competed: —N. 1.. High School, Hamilton High School, Gisborne High School, Wanganui Collegiate School, Otago Boys’ High School, Wellington College, New Plymouth Technical College, McGlashan College, Seddon Memorial Technical College, Scots’ College, Waitaki Boys’ High School, Christian Brothers’ Cadets (Dunedin), Timaru High School, Hawera Technical College, Palmerston North Boys’ High School, Wellesley College, Christ’s College, King Edward Technical College (Dunedin), Gore High School, Palmerston North Technical College, TS ton Technical College, Invercargill Technical College, St. College, Christchurch Boys’ High School.
