The case of the Graziers’ Association against the owners of the Quantambone station was again before the 11 court, but the parties failed to reach an agreement. The Australian Workers’ Union obtained leave to interpose, stating it considered that if the rule compelled graziers to pay only the minimum rates it would be prejudicial to members of the union. AN IMPUDENT THEFT. Melbourne. July 10. Ivy Matthews, one of the chief witnesses in the Gun Alley tragedy, invested half of the £430 reward in replenishing her wardrobe prior to leaving Melbourne. Whilst visiting friends a cabman called at Matthews’ house and said the latter had sent him for her luggage. He obtained the lot, also a bundle of notes, and has not since been sighted.
