VENEREAL DISEASES.
N.Z. STILL LAGGING.' Interesting reference to the prevalence and treatment of venereal disease in New Zealand was made by the Hon. Dr. W. E. Collins in moving the Address-in-Reply in the Legislative Council. Dr. Collins said that 30 years ago sufferers were not admitted into hospitals, but to-day more humanitarian methods prevailed. The older countries became alarmed at the prevalence of the disease, and in 1913 an international medical congress sat for one week to consider the matter. The result of that conference was that West Australia decreed to make the disease a notifiable one. All the State sof Australia, but New South Wales, followed suit, and lately New South Wales has fallen into line. In the United States, 48 States had the same legislation, so had Canada and South Africa. Only New Zealand lagged, and is still lagging.
