BRITAIN’S DEBTORS.

INTEREST MAY BE REQUIRED. “IF OTHERS PRESS.” London. June 27. The question of the French war debt to Britain was brought up in the House of Commons, and evoked the statement from Mr. Lloyd George that the French Government had not endeavored to raise the question of cancellation, but the subject had naturally been informally mentioned between the countries’ representatives. Mr. Lloyd George repeated that the British taxpayers were unable to remit the sums advanced to other countries during and after the war. The Government had therefore notified such countries that if payment of interest and principal were pressed in respect of i loans made to Britain to aid the prosecution of the war, Britain must be regarded as free to ask for interest in cash, in reject of money advances, from next October.
