THEFT FROM EMPLOYER.
A CAMBRIDGE CASE. Cambridge, July 6. In the Cambridge Magistrate’s Court to-day, Clarence Evan James was charged with the theft of type, printing materials, etc., from his Frank Penn. He pleaded guilty. The evidence called showed that the accused, while foreman of the job printing department of the Waikato Independent, had a key to the premises, and stole the goods in the early mornings. He afterwards set up a printing business in Cambridge, using the materials stolen, which led to his detection. The accused was committed by Mr. H. A. Young, S.M., to the Supreme Court at Auckland for sentence. A further charge was preferred against James of the theft of other type and printing materials. The defence was that the goods had been given the accused by the manager of the Waikato Printtng Company previous to Penn purchasing the business. This information was dismissed, but the magistrate issued an order that all the goods were to Be returned to Penn.
