Cargoes are threepence to sixpence lower, -following the American decline ‘ and the collapse of Continental exchanges. Parcels ex Australpeak, 54s (id; Australian, May, 53s 3d; another parcel shortly due at Liverpool, 535. BURNSIDE STOCK SALE FAT CATTLE IN DEMAND. Dunedin, July 5. A medium yarding of fat cattle was offered at the Burnside sales to-day. Competition was keen at the commencement of the sale, and the prices realised were fully £1 in advance of late rates. The yarding of lambs was much larger than of late, the bulk of the offering being of medium quality. Freezing buyers were operating to a limited extent. There was a good yarding of sheep, and bidding, which was spirited, was confined solely to butchers.
Fat Cattle.—A medium yarding numbering 181 head, composed principally of medium and prime qualty bullocks. There was been competition, and prices at the opening of the sale showed an advance on last week’s rates, which was maintained to the close. Prime ox beef were worth 25s ■to 27s per 1001 b, eow beef 20s to 22s Gd. Prime bullocks realised from £8 to £l4, extra prime heifers, from £7 10s to £lO 2s 6d. prime to £8 10s, light and unfinished to £G.
Sheep.—A large yarding, numbering 2503 head. The offering was not up to last week's standard, and compris'ed mostly lightweight ewes and wethers. The sale opened at prices fully Is below late rates, but medium and lightweight sheep were even lower. Prices for prime wethers hardened as the sale progressed and the closing rates were on a par with last week’s values. Ewes, however, made no recovery. The yarding was sufficient for butchers’ requirements. Prime wether mutton barely touched 4ld per lb, although an isolated pen or two brought slightly more. Ewe mutton was worth 3:}d to 4d. Extra prime heavyweight wethers realised from 30s to 34s 9d, prime 26s to 295. medium 20s to 24s Gd, light and unfinished sorts from 17s to 18s 9d. Extra prime heavyweight ewes realised from 22s to 25s Gd, prime 17s to 225, medium Ils Gd to 14s, light and aged, from 8s upwards.
