DOMINION NEWS. COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. By Telegraph.—Pi;ess Association. Gisborne, July 8. Thomas Richard Porter, secretary of the Waterside Workers’ Union, Tokomaru Bay, was charged with the theft of £147 from the funds of the union. He pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence at the Auckland Supreme Court. A Maori youth named Hunati Poi pleaded guilty to breaking and entering a dwelling at Tokomaru Bay. He was also cbmmitted to Auckland for sentence. FREEZING WORKS STRIKE. Dunedin, July 8. Tt appears likely that the strike of slaughtermen will fizzle out. Pickets were not present at Burnside on Thursday or Friday, and it is thought likely a number of strikers will accept the companies’ intimation that it will engage union, labor on. Monday on award terms.
