ECONOMY PLEA.
POSITION IN AMERICA. INCREASING BURDEN. BRITAIN’S LESSON. By Telegraph.—Press Assa.—Copyright. Received July 7, 10.5 p.m. Washington, July 6. In a most impressive speech to an overflowing Chamber Senator Borah warned Congress that pending legislation tended to even greater expenditure. “Every item on the Republican programme,” he declared, "seeks to increase instead of lowering the national burden, and the people’s faith in the Government is being destroyed. The men responsible for this are guilty of the most heinous crime of which men can be <uilty " He read into the Senatorial record portions of Lord Inchcape’s report on English and asked Congress to see the lesson therein for America. He added: “The tariff, the ship subsidy Bill and the soldiers’ bonus have dragged the nation upon a road over which no nation yet has ever beaten a successful retreat."—Aus.-N-Z. Cable Assn.
