SIR JGHN SANDYS. PUBLIC ORATOR AT CAMBRIDGE. By Telegraph.—Press Atam.—Copyright. Received July 7, 5.5 p.m. London, July 6. Sir John Sandys, Public Orator at‘ Cambridge, dropped dead while proceeding to attend the ceremony of conferring honorary degrees on the Duke of York and Mr. Taft, ex-American Presi--dent. (The late Sir John Sandys was one of the foremost and most erudite scholars produced by either Oxford or Cambridge, and was honored not only by both those universities, but also by Dublin, Edinburgh, Harvard, and Athens. Born in 184>4, he had a brilliant school and university career, becoming a Fellow of St. John’s College in 1867, and Public Orator at Cambridge in 1876. He waa the author of numerous classical and his-* torieal works, and a prolific contributor to the higher class of literary ppoductions.)
