PERSONAL.
Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., arrived in New Plymouth by the mail train last night. Mr. W- F. Massey completes his tenth year as Prime Minister to-day, having taken office on July 8, 1912, succeeding Sir Thomas Mackenzie.
Cr. T. McKenzie was unable to attend yesterday's meeting of the Clifton County Council on account of illness. Cr. McKenzie was granted leave of absence and the council passed a resolution of sympathy, and expressedi the hope that Cr. McKenzie would speedily
Mr. Alfred Smith, who died at Hamilton at the age of 81 years, was an early settler at Paterangi, where he resided for fifty years. Deceased was connected with many public works in the Waikato.
Professor R. J. T. Bell, who holds the Chair of Mathematics at the Otago University, has been elected an honorary member of the Physical Society of the University of Glasgow. This honor has been conferred in recognition of Professor Bell’s past services to the society and his services to science generally..
