FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIP. NEW ZEALANDER COMPETING. By Telegraph.—-Press Assn.-— Copyright. Received July 5, 5.5 p.m. Paris, July 4. Michael Scott, who is favorite for the French golf championship, is winning matches with consummate ease. His latest victims are Jacques Castel and Stanley Fargu, prominent golfers. They both lost six down and five. He mets in the next round Bullock Webster, winner of the Auckland Club championship in 1914. A dub golfer was hiring a caddie. "Can you count?” he asked. “Yessir, said the boy. “Can you add up?” “Yessir.” “Well, what’s five and seven and four?” “Twelve, sir.” "Come along,” said the golfer, "you’ll do.” Kirkwood recently wrote to a Wellington player that he considered Hagen the best player in the world, and now that Hagen has won the open as well as the American championship, the opinion* seems justified. If New Zealand clubs can afford inducement to these two players to include the Dominion in their 'world tour, this new honor Hagen has won will «add materially to the interest of seeing him perform on the local links.
