The State Department has sent a vigorous protest to the Mexican Government, asking for the punishment of the murderers of Mrs. Cheney, wife of an American citizen employed by an oil company, whom bandits killed on June 29. APPEAL BY BOTTOMLEY Received July 4, 9.30 p.m. London, July 3. Horatio Bottomley, who was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for fraud, has appealed against his conviction on the grounds of misdirection of the jury, and that, as the jury was not properly constituted, it was a mis-trial. ASSAULT IN BERLIN. Received July 4, 9.30 pan. Paris, July 4. Advices from Berlin state that two men clubbed into insensibility Maximilian Harden. One arrest was made.
