DAIRY PRODUCE.
EXHIBIT AT HAWERA SHOW. VERY LARGE ENTRIES. HIGH QUALITY OF ARTICLES. As is to be expected in a district in which dairying plays such an important part, dairy produce has been given a prominent place in. the Dominion Show at Hawera. The entries in both butter and cheese show 7 a considerable increase, a gratifying feature being the number of entries received from Taranaki factories. Taranaki figures very largely on the prize list. Bell B-loek (W. Taylor) and Lepperton (S. Paul) each gained two firsts in the butter sections, whilst in the cheese sections Lowgarth wins four firsts, Kaupokonui and .Toll’s two, and North Taranaki one. -
The judges remark that this year> butter exhibits could hardly be beaten. For uniformity and high quality they are the best they have had the pleasure of judging. Particularly is this the case in Class 14, which butter was made by first assistants, and which is of a very high standard indeed. Packing in several cases is not “top hole.” Not sufficient attention is paid to ramming the butter closely in the boxes, more particularly in the bottom. This defect was very noticeable in the export class which was taken from the various stores. They hope to see much improvement in this respect next year. They take this opportunity of congratulating the managers and assistants on their very excellent quality exhibits. Commenting on the cheese, the judges remark that in common with other shows held during this year, an increase in the number of entries is noted. The quality is of a high standard, comparing more than favorably with the standard of previous years. The cheese are staged in an attractive manner, being clean and free from mould.
The exhibit is well set out with greenery, and the handsome trophies that are competed for are shown, the whole making a very attractive display. The detailed awards are as follow: CHEESE.
