FOOTBALL.
SCHOOL REPS. I SOUTH TARANAKI TEAM. The day chosen for trying out the school representative football team was a unost unfortunate one. On Saturday morning laM some sixty boys gathered at Kaponga from the. schools of South Taranaki. The wretched weather conditions made the work of selection doubly difficult. The selector (Mr. Lyall) put the backs through preliminary tests to gauge the ability of the boys to “take the ball," kick, run and tackle, after which a short game was played in the mud. The following team was picked:— Full-back: Penny (Auroa). Three-quarters: Smart (Stratford); Collins (Stratford), Bailey (Tawhiti). Five-eighths: Davies, Riley (Pihama). Half: Thomas (Straitord). Wings: Crofts (Stratford), Greenhil! (Auroa). Forwards: Doyle (Kaponga), Goodwin (Pihauna). Stater (El th am), Loder (Hxwera Convent), Clark (Okaiawa), Sutton (Mamin Convent). Emergencies: Backs, Hepburn (TawhfiD* King (Manaia). Forwards, Tippetts (Narmauby), Preston Normanby). The boys will be entertained at thd Islington tea rooms in Hawera on Saturday next at 11.45 by the Taranaki Rugby Union, after which they will change for the mahiffi at the Royal Hotel. The game starts at o’clock sharp.
