Orders for papers may also be left with him. JERSEY COWS’ RECORD. The creditable performances of two Jersey cows was brought under notice at Thursday night’s annual smoke concert of the Stratford Jersey Cattle Club, when Messrs. C. Gibbons, of Ngaere, and Mr. W. Pollock, of Stratford, were presented with medals of merit.

The chairman (Mr. F. Ranford) said that during the past season the Stratford branch of the association had held a competition for breeders who had not previously tested their cows, a gold medal having been presented by Messrs. O’Sullivan Bros. (Tariki) and a silver medal by Mr. F. D. Gaffaney (Stratford). The gold medal was won by Mr. darry Gibbons, who was only a young breeder, with, a cow named Goneril, which produced 6521bs of butterfat in 347 days at 2 years 41 days, and would have gone further but for a mishap. Goneril also won the association’s medal. The silver medal was won by Mr. W. Pollock with the cow Silvia Prim, which produced 7471bs of butterfat in 365 days. 5 SCOUT ENTERTAINMENT. The scouts’ night at the King’s Theatre on Wednesday night proved an unqualified success. As the result of keen canvassing .by the committee a good house was secured and an enjoyable entertainment was provided. The best community “sing” to date was led by Mr. P. Aitken, the audience joining in with vim. Vocal items were given by Mr. P. Aitken and Miss Sullivan, and the popular entertainer, Mr. Bert Vinsen, also contributed items. On behalf of the scout troop, Scoutmaster W. H. Humphrey thanked the public for their generous support, mentioning that the scouts had secured a new meeting hall and thirteen weeks’ rent had been guaranteed by local gentlemen.

As a. result of the entertainment the scout’s funds will benefit to the extent of about £2O.

July 1. The death took place in Stratford today of Mrs. Mary Potroz, wife of Mr. Anton Potroz, of Surrey Road. Tariki, and a sister of Mre. W. L. Wells, Stratford. The funeral leaves Mr. Wells’ residence in Miranda Street, on Monday, for the Midhirst cemetery.

It was reported the other day that the Rev. J. W. Mckenrie, while playing football at the Strafford A. and P. grounds, had been relieved of a gold watch and chain, sovereign case, a fountain pen and some money, by an undetected thief. Yesterday Mr. V. Hark-, nesa. on behalf of the Stratford footballers and friends of Mr. McKenzie, presented him with a replica of those articles.

A genera] meeting of the old pupils of the Stratford D.H.S. is to be held in the Stratford Borough chartibers on Wednesday. July 8. Any old pupils living in the country and unable to attend should forward their names to the hon. secretary. Mr. A. R. Masters- It is houed to establish a live Old Pupils’ Association, and to this end a large membership is aimed at. The advantages of having such an association connected with the life of a school are so many that there should be no need to appeal to old pupils to join.
