BURGLARS’ UNIVERSITY.
DIPLOMA FOUND ON PRISONER. A diploma issued by a training school for burglars was found by the police among the effects of Joseph Lauzon, a well-known “cradksman,” who was arrested at Washington recently. The institution, which is situated at Los Angeles, names itself “The Wayne Strong School of Safe-work.” Its diploma certifies that “Mr. Joseph Lauzon has been a student at this school of safe-work and that he has satisfactorily completed the subjects mentioned herein as taught by our safe experts. He is hereby awarded a diploma as an acknowledgment of his proficiency and in recommendation of his accomplishments.” The list of subjects referred to consists of “safe-open-ing, combination-setting, safe-repairing, and safe-lock work.” Lauzon’s last piece of work brought him in loot to the value of £40,000. Many of his former classmates of the safe-cracking school, he told the police, are reaping a golden harvest in New York and other large cities.
