HOW THE FRENCH LOVE.

VERY DIFFERENT TO THE BRITISH. By Telegraph.—Press As«n.—Copyright. Sydney, June 30. At the quarterly sessions a young Frenchman, charged with having stolen a suitease containing a lady’s clothing, passionately pleaded with'the judge and jury to forget they were Britishers and i try to see with the eyes of a Frenchman. In liis country it was nothing for a young man to be chased by gendarmes because he climbed perhaps to the window of his lady to say goodnight. The French mind worked quite differently from the English. It was quite true he took the articles, but he did so because he loved the lady and took them to prevent her going out with any other man. Mr. Justice Scholes told the jury that, despite the strangeness of the defence, it was entirely worthy of consideration, and the jury ' acquitted accused.
