The death is announced of Mr. T. L, Jones, of Patea, an ardent angler. Mr. Ira J. Bridger, of Eltham, was elected a vice-president of the P.P.A. at the general conference at Wellington on Thursday. The Prime Minister, the Hon. W. F. Massey, has written to the New Plymouth branch of the Reform League stating that it is his intention to visit Taranaki at the earliest opportunity. Advice was received in Christchurch yesterday of the death in England of Mr. G. H. N. Helmore, of the legal firm of Messrs. Helmore and Van Asch. Deceased left on a visit to the Old Country on March 30.—Press Assn. A, Palmerston North telegram reports the death of Mr. W. J. Phillips, a retired. farmer and well known in racing circles. He was the owner of Nobleman, winner of the Wellington Cup and the Manawatu Cup twice. He was a prominent member of the Rangitikei and Feilding Racing Clubs and he held office in the Grand Lodge of FreemasonryAn Auckland telegram states that Mr. I-larle Giles has been advised by the Minister of Labor that, owing to retrenchment, his services as Conciliation Commissioner will be dispensed with. His place will be taken by Mr. P. Hally. The Minister expressed appreciation of the faithful and successful manner in wlrch Mr. Giles carried out his duties.
