The Senate Tariff Committee has increased various meat and cattle duties fixed by the House, as follows: Cattle weighing 1050 lb, from 1} to 2 cents per lb; cattle above 1050 lb, from 2 to 3£ cents; fresh beef and veal, from 2 to 3i cents, and sheep and goats were fixed at 2 dollars per head, instead of 1 cent per lb, as the House provided, with fresh mutton from 1£ to 24 cents. 'Hie changes were carried only after a violent partisan debate, in which the Democrats declared that the food bill of the American people would be increased by many billions of dollars yearly.—Aus.'N.Z.
