JERSEY CATTLE.

NORTH TARANAKI BREEDERS. THE ANNUAL SALE. The New Plymouth Jersey Cattle Club’s annual sale of Jersey cattle, consisting of 53 two-year heifers, 10 yearling heifers, 16 cows and 2 bulls, was held at the Agricultural / Showgrounds at New Plymouth yesterday, when 53 of the catalogued lots were disposed of under the auspices of Messrs. Newton King, Ltd. Buyers present were representative of leading North island breeders, a total of about 200 attending the sale. It was essentially a buyers’ day, the 42 heifers sold averaging 40 guineas, and 9 cows 32 guineas. Top price was paid for Mr. E. O’Sullivan’s twoyear heifer Meadowvale Lingerie (Meadowvale Gamboller—Meadowvale Finery), which cost, Mr. E. Griffiths, of New Plymouth, 100 guineas. As a general rule, however, prices were low, about 28 head being passed in without the reserve being reached. The cattle, for the most part, were in good condl- • tion, and the leading sires and dams were well represented. Messrs. K. Kirk and C. Williams took turns in wielding the hammer, and acquitted themselves well. Following are the details of the sale, buyers being from New Plymouth where not otherwise stated:— HEIFERS.
