Mr. S. Turner, who returned to the Dominion on Saturday after a trip to England, was a visitor to Hawera yes* terday. Messrs. S. G. Smith, R. Masters, O. Hawken and E. Dixon, M.P.’s, left for Wellington by the mail train yesterday. The many friends of Mr. A. B. Gibson, of New Plymouth, will regret to hear of the death of his mother, which occurred at Napier yesterday morning. Mr. Gibson has left to attend the funeral. An Auckland telegram announces the? death of Mr. Fredrick George Ewington, aged 79. Arriving by the ship Indian, Empire in 1862 he served in the Maori war. He was formerly a member of the Prisons Board. The numerous friends of Mr. Alf. Muller will learn with sincere regret of the death of his mother, which took place on Friday (says the Wanganui Chronicle). Deceased, who was bom at New Plymouth in 1853, came to Wanganui with her husband in 1872, and took over the Wanganui Hotel, where the Public Trust Office now stands. A colonist of over 81 years’ standing in New Zealand, Mrs. G. W. Woon, died ; at Auckland last week at the age of 90. Born at Helston, Cornwall, ahf arrived, as a child of eight, with het parents, Mr. and Mrs. George, at Neu Plymouth in the ship Ori nt in 1841- She married Mr. Woon in 1852.
