He was regarded as the Napoleon of cotton mill finance, and was a reputed millionaire. The incident has caused a sensation ii Manchester. Known as the modern Midas or Napoleon of finance, Sir William Hopwood, cotton mill magnate, whose deals a few yea r s ago aggregated 30 millions, finds a receiving order in bankruptcy made against him at 60 years of age. He began life as a cotton piercer. The reputed millionaire was knighted last year. He made his greatest deals after the armistice. In 1919 he bought up 30 mills. Everything he touched turned to gold. His church and charitable gifts totalled £50,000.
