EXPORT OF COAL.
PROTEST AT CHARGES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Westport, Last Night. At a meeting of the executive of the Buller Progress League strong exception •was taken to an intimation that the export charge of 9d per ton on coke and coal carries with it the 40 per cent, charges imposed for war revenue purposes, making an additional 4d. It was Stated that these two charges were going to have a serious effect on the existing coal minee- and also on mining development in view of the attempts being made by Australia to capture the New Zealand market. The executive Resolved to invite the Mayor to call a public meeting of protest.
