COSTLY GOVERNORSHIP.
SIR A. WEIGALL RETRENCHES. London May *23 LieUtenant-Colonel Sir Archibald Weigall, formerly Governor of South Australia, interviewed on his arrival in England, said that his resignation was simply a matter of finance. British taxation and the fact that the wages of his entire staff had to be paid out of his £4OOO salary rendered it impossible to carry on without touching his private income. He intended to retire ‘to. a country farm and would not re-enter polities. Turning to the subject of migration, he said that the possibilities for settlers in Australia were enormous, but they must be of the right type. Urban dwellers, unaccustomed to roughing it, Ir.r.ould not go, but virile men with an experience of farming and of agrieully were most wanted.
