The King has appointed the Prince of Wales a Knight of the Order of the Thistle (says a London’cable). Mr. F. R. Hoskin (the sitting member) will contest the north ward seat on the Taranaki Education Board at the forthcoming election against Mr, H. Dempsey, of New Plymouth (writes our Waitara correspondent). ’ Mr. J. B. Roy, of New Plymouth, leaves next week for Australia on holiday. He will be accompanied by Miss Roy and Mr. lan Roy. Mr. M. Fraser, of New Plymouth, leaves for Wellington on Monday to attend a sitting of the Health Board. Mr. T. €’. List, president of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce, returned by the Ulimaroa on Wednesday from a visit to Australia. He returns to New Plymouth to-night. Mr. V. Harkness, of Tariki, has consented to nomination as a candidate for a seat on the Taranaki Power Board.
Constable Blaikie, who has been on sick leave for several weeks, returns to duty at Mokau to-day, and Constable Small, who has been relieving at Mokau, returns to New Plymouth. A Sydney cable reports the death of Doctor Litchfield, a specialist in children's diseases. He was president of that section at the Australasian Medical Congress at Brisbane in 1920.' Mr. C. A. Smith, who has occupied the position of accountant at the New Plymouth branch of the Bank of New South Wales for the past few years, has received notice of his transfer on promotion to the position of manager of the branch of the bank at Lawrence, Central Otago. He expects to leave New Plymouth in about a fortnight. The death occurred yesterday morning of Mr. James Rennie, of Waitara. Mr. Rennie, who was 60 years of age, has been ill for the last twelve months. He was brought up in Victoria, and after receiving business grounding in Melbourne, he came to New Zealand, where he obtained a position in charge of a department of Messrs. Sargood, Son and Ewen’s Dunedin warehouse, latet being employed by Messrs. Kirkcaldie and Stains, Ltd., at Wellington and Napier, occupying the position of manager at the latter town. In 1910 Mr. Rennie bought out the drapery business of the late Mr. W. P. Snell, of Waitara. and during the years Hiat followed he built up a very successful business. The late Mr. Rennie took all active interest in civic affairs, being a member of the Waitara Borough Council and an expresident of the Chamber of Commerce, besides being actively identified in all patriotic undertakings during the * war. The deceased was an ardent member of the Catholic Church. Bowling also claimed Mr. Rennie’s /leisure, he being a keen supporter of the Waitara Bowling Club. Mr. Rennie’s death is a distinct loss to the Waitara community, as he had a host of friends who will extend sincere sympathy to Miss Rennie and Miss Bland. Mr. Rennie’s two closest relatives, in their bereavement.
