BOWLING.

WEST END CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the West End Bowling Club was held In the club’s pavilion last night. Mr. J. Lobb, president, presided over a fair attendance. The president referred to the loss’ sustained by the club through the death of Mr. J. Thomson, and the meeting stood in science for one minute as a tribute to the memory of deceased. Thtf annual report stated: In presenting the twelfth annual report, the committee have to congratulate the members of the club on the satisfactory result of the past season's working. The receipts from all sources amount to £367 19s lid, and the expenditure £32B< 13s, leaving a cash balance of £39 16s lid. From a playing standpoint the club has improved materially through the past season. This we attribute to the fact of having an A and B team in the banner competition, allowing room -r all young players, of which we have quite a lot of promising players, of whom the club are justly prbud. In club competitions the senior championship was won by J. Lobb, and Grafton Sole, who is a very keen young player, was successful in winning the junior championship. We are sorry to report that the Grey and Hodson challenge bowls have not been played for during the past season, but we hope that in the early part of next season they will be competed for freely, and be a .source of revenue, for which purpose they were given. Our No. 1 green having to be re-sown again entailed quite a lot of woi*k, and the club’s thanks are due to our green warden (Mr. F. J. Hill) and Mr. Hurlestone (our caretaker) in leaving nothing undone to make a successful job. We also have to thank Mr. W. H. Skinner for supplying us with the levels of the greens during the season, for which the club are greatly indebted to him. The report extended thanks to the secretary, the ladies and all who helped the club. Officers were elected as follow: President, Mr. E. V. Harton; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Lobb and J. S. S. Medley; secretary and treasurer, Mr. L. H. Honeyfield; auditor, Mr. C. A. Smith; general committee, Messrs. T. Petty, F. Sole, J. Potter, F. Hill, B. Petty, T. Billing, and H. Hill. It was decided that two selectors be provided, one for each team, and Messrs. T. Petty and J. Lobb were chosen. Other appointments were: Match committee, Messrs. E. V. Harton, J. Lobb and W. Oliver; green warden, Mr. F. J. Hill; delegates to Bowling Centre, Messrs. F. S. Hill and J. Lobb. It was decided that the honorarium for the secretary be the same as last year, namely £ 5 ss. The subscription is to be the same as on previous years, viz., £3 Ids, reducible to £2 10s if paid prior to the end of December. It was decided that the competitions ba left in the hands of the match committee. A recommendation that the northern division he cut into two sections for playing the banner matches was carried. It was decided that the subscription for winter play be 12s 6d, er Is per game for casual players. A social evening is to be given to the ladies of the club at a date to be decided upon later. In view of the fact that Mr. Billing has won the senior championship three years in succession, it was resolved that a medal, suitably inscribed, be presented to him at the opening day. It was recommended that the locker room be enlarged 8 or 10 feet. Votes of thanks were passed to the ladies, the retiring president, the committee, and the Press. Several new , members were proposed and accepted. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Smith proposed that a vote of appreciation be accorded the caretaker and green warden (Mr. Hill), who, he said, had done a great amount of work on the greens. His untiring efforts were in the main responsible for the splen- 1 did state of the greens of the Wwt End Club. jot* jrna fuinMt ' J
