LIABILITIES £308; ASSETS NIL. MEETING OF CREDITORS. j A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Riki Kahui, a Maori, of Rahotu, was held at the office of the D.O.A. (Mr. J. S. S. Medley) at New Plymouth, yesterday. Creditors represented were: Messrs. M. G. Hughson (for Hughson arid Sons), R. Julian, and S. Teed. Bankrupt had as his legal representative Mr. A. R. Standish. Bankrupt had no assets to offer. | His written statement was us follows: “I am a native living at Rahotu. I have five acres of native land there, on which 1 I reside. My wife had a serious illness 1 seven years ago, and she has been an ;n- [ valid ever since. In consequence of my I wife’s illness, I got into debt and I have ‘ never been able to get clear. My wife’s f illness is such that frequently I have j remain at home to look after hFr, and con-
j sequently my earnings have been reduced, i I am onh r a laborer, and, as I have no I fixed employment, I necessarily lose a . .I good deal of time on that account, and I also on account of wet weather. I have ! done my best to clear off the back debts I and pay my way, but have been unable to do so, and as some of my creditors have taken proceedings under their judgments, I have been forced co file. My wife is solely dependent on me. I also have to support my mother, who l is an invalid, and two children, aged 13 years and three years.” In answer to the D.0.A., the bankrupt said: “I have interests in various blocks | of native land, and have five acres free- ■ hold myself. I have no cattle or horses. I only get £8 or £9 a year rent from the public trustee on native land.” Further action was held over with a view to seeing if any of the native land could be sold.
